7 Steps
Cold Dry Winter: How to save your hair
Cold Dry Winter: How to save your hair
1. Shampoo Less
Shampoo your hair less often in the winter months. Since hair does not get as dirty in the winter (less heat=less sweat) as in the summer. Too much shampooing will create drier hair, more static, and a flaky scalp.
2. Hydration is Key
An obvious, but important one. Hydrate your hair more often by using a deep conditioner once a week. Apply all over, and let sit in shower for at least 5 minutes, for extra hydration, cover your hair with a hot towel for 30 minutes while the conditioner sits before rinsing.
3. Tame The Fly Aways
We all suffer from some fly-aways- and even worse in the winter months! Try using a leave in conditioner on wet hair to help tame those pesky pieces.
4. Limp hair to Life
Use dry shampoo in between washes and apply mostly at the roots to give your hair body and lift.
5. Turn Down The Heat
Try slightly lower the temperature on your heat styling tools without losing their effectiveness, the dry air should help dry your hair faster even with a lower blowdry temperature, and the lower heat will help not dry your hair out.
6. Finishing Strong
Use oil based styling products to combat dry hair and add shine, but be sure to only apply a small amount! Too much oil can leave your hair looking heavy, flat, or greasy. This can be applied in small amounts each day between washes.
7. Hair Color
Embrace darker shades that will fade less throughout the winter months, and opt for an added color or clear glaze to add shine into dry locks.
Fun With (nonpermanent) Color
We’ve all had our fantasies of coloring our hair with primary and fashion colors, however. the idea can be daunting if you don’t like it or only want it for a short amount of time. Will it be hard to maintain? Will it be hard to dye back to my natural/desired color? What if I don’t like it? All valid concerns, but we’re here to help with some nonpermanent options that can add some color into your locks- a perfect bold start to the new year!
1. Colored tape in extensions are the easiest way to add a pop of color to your hair. One streak or multiple, no color necessary, and easy to take out! You can even decide to change out the color whenever you want!
2. “Dye” your hair with colored shampoos and conditioners you can purchase in Charles Ifergan Salons. You have to have some blonde/lighter color in your hair- highlights or ombre, in order for the colors to take to, however you don’t have to go all the way blonde to use these which makes them a fun and easy alternative. Color will wash away after 4-6 washes if you don’t continue to use the shampoos and conditioners with color.
Fun hair fact
Believe it or not, humans have the same amount of hair follicles per square inch as a chimpanzee!
